**The Numina Parables | Book 2**

**Rating:** Highly Recommend

Catron crafts a hauntingly beautiful world thrown out of balance, but with the ever-present hope of lost love and second chances given both from characters and the world itself.

---

Catron deepens the world and lore established in *A Daughter of the Trolls* and continues her deep-dives into characters, fears, and beliefs. The care and representation she continues to show for others, even ways of life not her own, amazes and inspires me. These are new fairy tales to enjoy, and I absolutely count them among my favorites.

Ten years after the Glade experiences its terrifying invasion and subsequent rescue, new perils find their way into the world, bringing uncertainty and calamity to the safe haven of goblins, trolls, and changelings once more. Goblin triplets Rose, Poppy, and Posy are visited by a Pooka and called to a quest of their own, leaving Sparrow, Rush, and their pacel of changeling children to watch over a quick-ailing Aspen—who has been a mother to the goblin triplets. To help their drear friend Hazel and save the world which balances on the edge of a precipice, they must journey far beyond The Glade into dangers great and small. If they cannot face their fears of witches and breach the Wyrd Mountain to return the Numina, evil will consume the face of the world and witches will reign supreme.

Some of my favorite quotes:

- "We are who we are because of the darkness we've survived . . ."
- "I find fulfillment in a companionship with someone as like-minded and devoted as me. Someone to *'love'* unconditionally more than any earthly object, friend, or family member. Someone whose soul matches mine and touches my heart and mind rather than my body."
- "Trauma has never been a simple thing to have to overcome. There is no quest anyone could ever set upon that would make the horrific things we've experienced magically better. We could never just *"get over it."* But we did learn from the darkness, and we grew because of our hardships."

Catron has a wonderful style of writing that evokes fairy tales for the young and old. Weaving these tales in a delicate, balanced way, she deftly reveals lore and invites readers into a world of trolls and brownies, witches and terrible evil. Along the way, her characters challenge both themselves and each other, whether in how much they understand one another (as in the case of the goblin triplets), the world and its lore (as in the revelation of the Numina), or even themselves and their own fears and beliefs. Characters are tested to their limits, yet we cheer for them because of the deep understanding Catron forges between character and reader throughout the long, arduous journey.

I have absolutely loved these tales so far, and I cannot wait to see what happens next in the tale, whether it immediately follows the triplets' harrowing quest or we return to the world of The Glade and the Numina many years in its future. What I do know is I can expect wonderful twists and turns alongside a deep-dive into matters of the heart and self.
