It’s been quite the year in reading, and this last quarter has seen a lot of books on the docket, and a lot of books devoured. I’m still working through the *Nevermoor* series with my “oops we made a book club” group, and it’s been so fun to experience these books through a new medium (physical books instead of audio) while seeing reactions from brand new readers.

Overall, though, I’m so very pleased with the way my reading has picked up. I’m finding a rhythm for it, for the most part, and creating a bit of a habit that I believe will allow me to get through even more books in 2026\. But for now, I’m celebrating the books I read this quarter. 💙

#### Wundersmith: The Calling of Morrigan Crow (Nevermoor | Book 2)

I absolutely love reading these books in the physical format! I’m still hearing Gema Whelan’s audio versions in my head, of course (because she’s just too fantastic), but it’s been so fun (and *weird*) to see some of the names of people and places that I’ve definitely been spelling wrong for years. 😂

[![Call of the Crow by Jessica Khoury](https://storage.ghost.io/c/50/05/5005b841-a6a9-4902-ad65-ff17b958f53d/content/images/2026/09/2Call-of-the-Crow-1.png)](https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/call-of-the-crow-jessica-khoury/1139353319?ref=andilgregory.com)

#### Call of the Crow (Skyborn | Book 2)

This series has been such a fun one to read. I love the way Khoury crafts tales, and her outlook on life through characters’ eyes is both refreshing and interesting. The concept of this series, too, is so very intriguing to me—I greatly enjoy the creativity! Plus, Ellie and Nox are absolutely the best.

[![Phoenix Flight by Jessica Khoury](https://storage.ghost.io/c/50/05/5005b841-a6a9-4902-ad65-ff17b958f53d/content/images/2026/09/3Phoenix-Flight.png)](https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/phoenix-flight-jessica-khoury/1140075288?ref=andilgregory.com)

#### Phoenix Flight (Skyborn | Book 3)

Wow. What a conclusion to this series. Absolutely satisfying, despite the many twists and turns along the way. I loved Ellie’s and Nox’s journeys in this one, and the chance to see the ways in which they’ve grown. Just . . . I love this series and I cannot recommend it enough.

[![Hollowpox: The Hunt for Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend](https://storage.ghost.io/c/50/05/5005b841-a6a9-4902-ad65-ff17b958f53d/content/images/2026/09/3Hollowpox---The-Hunt-for-Morrigan-Crow-2.png)](https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/hollowpox-jessica-townsend/1131939328?ref=andilgregory.com)

#### Hollowpox: The Hunt for Morrigan Crow (Nevermoor | Book 3)

This is another book that’s been wonderfully fun to experience via text rather than audio. I’m loving the new details I’m latching onto rather than “glossing over” (not on purpose) because of the different medium, and it’s keeping me excited for the next books that are coming in the series.

[![The Fortune of Fractured Fate by Amber D. Lewis](https://storage.ghost.io/c/50/05/5005b841-a6a9-4902-ad65-ff17b958f53d/content/images/2026/09/2The-Fortune-of-Fractured-Fate.png)](https://www.amazon.com/Fortune-Fractured-Fate-Elodia/dp/B0G6XGTX3H?ref=andilgregory.com)

#### The Fortune of Fractured Fate (Fate of Elodia | Book 2)

**Please note:** This is a book I edited for a client, and I would not recommend it for all readers, as it contains mature content. That said, Lewis is a fantastic author, crafting plots and characters that are very engaging.

[![Of Fire and Ash by Gillian Bronte Adams](https://storage.ghost.io/c/50/05/5005b841-a6a9-4902-ad65-ff17b958f53d/content/images/2026/09/1Of-Fire-and-Ash.png)](https://www.enclavepublishing.com/books/of-fire-and-ash/?ref=andilgregory.com)

#### Of Fire and Ash (The Fireborn Epic | Book 1)

This was a fun reread as I prepared to dive into the third book in the series (coming out soon!), and it was just as wild a ride as I remembered. I ended up listening to the audio for this one, narrated by the author herself (so. very. *cool*.) and it’s always a pleasure to hear exactly how it sounds in the author’s mind. Definitely worth the read for the horse-lover and epic fantasy fans!

[![Of Sea and Smoke by Gillian Bronte Adams](https://storage.ghost.io/c/50/05/5005b841-a6a9-4902-ad65-ff17b958f53d/content/images/2026/09/2Of-Sea-and-Smoke.png)](https://www.enclavepublishing.com/books/of-sea-and-smoke/?ref=andilgregory.com)

#### Of Sea and Smoke (The Fireborn Epic | Book 2)

The second book of my reread before the final installment of *The Fireborn Epic*, and again I read via audio (because Adams is also an awesome narrator). Although the twists and turns in this one are absolutely wonderful, fair warning that the ending is a **cliffhanger.** (Honestly, I kinda wanted to throw the book at that ending, in the best way, but it’s a bit hard to throw audio. 😂)

[![Of Dawn and Embers by Gillian Bronte Adams](https://storage.ghost.io/c/50/05/5005b841-a6a9-4902-ad65-ff17b958f53d/content/images/2026/09/3Of-Dawn-and-Embers.jpg)](https://www.enclavepublishing.com/books/of-dawn-and-embers/?ref=andilgregory.com)

#### Of Dawn and Embers (The Fireborn Epic | Book 3)

Wow. What an amazingly fun ending to *The Fireborn Epic*. I devoured this chonk of a book in three days (it’s bigger than the other two y’all, be prepared), but it was so very satisfying. I’ll definitely be going back in for a reread soon, but there were the best kinds of twists and turns in this one, and we get so much more Jakim! And Finnian’s POV! There was so much I loved about this one. (Full review coming next month to the blog, but for now, check out my [mini review on Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/p/DRqNqIZDlhr/?utm%5Fsource=ig%5Fweb%5Fcopy%5Flink&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==).)

#### The Restitching of Camille DuLaine (The Rivenlea Sphere | Book 2)

What a ride. This was such a fun adventure with all kinds of literary world-hopping involved in the absolute best way. And y’all, we get a Laramie POV! I absolutely loved the chance to learn more about Laramie, Hadeon, and Camille while following Emlyn on a wild and wonderful journey through several familiar literary worlds. And her brand of humor is my favorite—poking at the big tropes used in many books (especially young adult)? I’m here for *all* of that. I honestly cannot wait to read through this one again, because it’s captured my imagination since I devoured it in a couple of days. Check out my [mini review on Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/p/DSBVQzDjhjn/?utm%5Fsource=ig%5Fweb%5Fcopy%5Flink&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==), and watch for a full review coming to the blog soon.

#### Mirrors (Heartbooks | Book 3)

I absolutely love Eden’s use of words and poetic phrasing. She writes absolutely beautiful books against a romantic backdrop full of heart and realism with a touch of whimsy. I always find these books excellent for a rainy or snowy day, and I can’t wait to read this next installment in her *Heartbooks* series. The little I’ve read thus far is gorgeously wonderful, and I’ve been dying for the chance to sit down with a cup of tea and finish this lovely read. 💙

[![What Comes of Attending the Commoners Ball by Elisabeth Aimee Brown](https://storage.ghost.io/c/50/05/5005b841-a6a9-4902-ad65-ff17b958f53d/content/images/2026/09/What-Comes-of-Attending-the-Commoner-s-Ball-1.png)](https://www.amazon.com/What-Comes-Attending-Commoners-Ball/dp/B0DGF12BQM?ref=andilgregory.com)

#### What Comes of Attending the Commoners Ball

So, after months and months of this one sitting on my TBR, I’m finally getting a chance to dive into it. I’ve been waiting and waiting, but alas, other obligations always seem to come up first. 😅 This sounds like such a fun and entertaining read, and I fully expect to get through it in a very short time.

Well, that’s a reading wrap for my year. What’s a favorite book you read this year?

#### What Hides in the Shadows: An R.H.S. Anthology

**Some secrets stay hidden because we're afraid to look. Others stay hidden because they're waiting.**

In this collection from The Red Herrings Society, you'll find stories that reach into the dark corners we usually walk past. A teenage girl accepts a ride from a killer. A old woman can no longer hold back the ghosts that haunt her home. A property manager disappears, and the only one qualified to search for her is a vampire who doesn't want to get involved.

These stories span genres and styles, from literary fiction to thriller, paranormal to fantasy, romance to mystery. But every one of them lives in the same territory: the space just beyond what we can see. The things we bury. The things we ignore. The things that wait quietly until we have no choice but to turn around and face them.

Some of these shadows are supernatural. Some are deeply, unsettlingly human. All of them will follow you home.

*What Hides in the Shadows* is a multi-genre anthology featuring voices from The Red Herrings Society, a community of writers who believe the best stories are the ones that refuse to let you look away.
