The end of another quarter and, man, was this one *busy*. So busy I didn't get near as much reading done as I wanted to—even with the use of audiobooks. Most of the quarter I spent focusing on my business and my own book (I finished a draft, yay!). I did still manage to read a few books (and reread a few via audio), and I'm hopeful the rereads are going to help me launch into reading new, amazing books in the coming months.

Because as we head into the fall months and cooler weather, I'm turning back to books and reading and cozy vibes, intentionally carving out time to read during my busy, busy life.

For now, here's what I've read recently (and what's on hand!).

#### Trickster in the Palace & Other Tales (Instanolde Chronicles)

Guys, these stories are so very fun (and heart-wrenching in the best way 😭). Razhar is absolutely one of my favorite characters of the series, so the fact he gets his *own* tale in here is just fantastic!

The tales can be read before or after the original duology—you don't need any prior knowledge of the characters or world to enjoy them! They're both a great jumping off point for readers just coming into the world and a great way to revisit Instanolde for current fans. Check out my full review, linked below.

#### Shining Revelation (Luminar Arvhives | Book 1)

This is *such a great book*! I had the absolute pleasure of editing this book, and it's absolutely one I would've picked up anyway! Carlson brings together heart, doubt, and twisting threads within a post-apocalyptic world that absolutely captured my imagination. Watch for updates [here](https://www.instagram.com/lcauthor/?ref=andilgregory.com). (Don't worry, I'll let you all know when it's releasing as soon as I do!)

Harry Potter full series by J.K. Rowling

#### Harry Potter Series (Books 1-7)

This was a reread for me, spurred by the onset of Back to Hogwarts day. I was also migrating my website to a new host at the time, and listening to familiar books helped pass the time but also meant I didn't have to pay close attention to follow the story. 😄 I always love these books, and I'm hopeful that finishing these will lead into a *lot* more reading over the next months. (Also with the new series coming on HBO later this year, a reread felt warranted. 😂)

#### A Goblin of the Glade (Numina Parables | Book 2)

I love these books, and am so sad I've been interrupted time and again while trying to get through these rereads so I can read the third book! But I'm very hopeful I can finish it very soon.

![Elantris by Brandon Sanderson](https://storage.ghost.io/c/50/05/5005b841-a6a9-4902-ad65-ff17b958f53d/content/images/2026/09/1Elantris.png)

#### Elantris

I'm probably halfway through the audio of this one, and I am absolutely *loving* it. But life meant I had to slow down on the read, though I'm very hopeful I'll be able to finish it soon! (As I also have a crochet project to finish. 😁)

#### The Hobbit

This is another reread, but fall and cooler weather has started to hit in my area, and it felt like the right time for a return to Middle Earth (I'm *such* a mood reader). I absolutely love these books, and I'm looking forward to a meandering journey alongside hobbits and elves and dwarves.

#### Sacred Margins

I picked this book up over the summer after attending a class taught by the author at a conference. It resonated with me so well, I knew I had to pick up the book he wrote on the same subject. I haven't had a chance to start it quite yet, but I'm really looking forward to exploring the concepts and doing the soul-searching I expect to happen as a result of the words between the pages.

---

Although I have big plans for reading continuing into the fall months, I'm also quite busy with volunteering and, this year, rewriting my current novel. But I am glad I was able to get *some* reading done over the busy summer, and I'm definitely going to be more intentional about carving out time to sit and read excellent books.

What have you read lately, or what are you looking forward to picking up this fall?

#### What Hides in the Shadows: An R.H.S. Anthology

**Some secrets stay hidden because we're afraid to look. Others stay hidden because they're waiting.**

In this collection from The Red Herrings Society, you'll find stories that reach into the dark corners we usually walk past. A teenage girl accepts a ride from a killer. A old woman can no longer hold back the ghosts that haunt her home. A property manager disappears, and the only one qualified to search for her is a vampire who doesn't want to get involved.

These stories span genres and styles, from literary fiction to thriller, paranormal to fantasy, romance to mystery. But every one of them lives in the same territory: the space just beyond what we can see. The things we bury. The things we ignore. The things that wait quietly until we have no choice but to turn around and face them.

Some of these shadows are supernatural. Some are deeply, unsettlingly human. All of them will follow you home.

*What Hides in the Shadows* is a multi-genre anthology featuring voices from The Red Herrings Society, a community of writers who believe the best stories are the ones that refuse to let you look away.
