Author Services
You’ve written, edited, and polished your story on your own. What’s next?
Maybe you’ve even sent your story to a developmental editor for big-picture edits or a line editor to fine-tune the language and flow. You’re ready to send it out to agents and publishers or get it into the hands of your not-so-patiently waiting readers. But is it really ready?
Before you hit the “send” or “publish” button, consider how close to the story you are. You’ve gone over it again and again and again. You know the rhythm, where every pause and line of speech is. It’s easy to skip over missing grammar and misspelled words when you know the story that well. When you’ve looked at it a million times and the story is close to your heart.
Why should I hire you?
I’m a passionate, detail-oriented line editor, copy editor, and proofreader who will help you spot those pesky spelling and grammar mistakes, or that one time you use “blue” instead of “green” for the love interest’s eyes. I help you ensure pacing and tension make your story sing to immerse readers into the story—and so that one stray comma doesn’t pull the grammar-loving reader from your story.
Not a novel writer? No problem! I enjoy editing short stories, novellas, and flash fiction, too. I’ve also edited for magazines and websites. Any time you submit a piece of writing for publication, a contest, or to sell a product, you want it to stand out from the crowd.
Not sure if you’re ready for an edit? Get a sample and professional opinion. I offer a FREE five-page sample edit for novels. This allows both the writer (you) and the editor (me) to discover if you’re looking for the right edit, and if we’ll be the right fit to work well together. Simply click on the button below, fill out the form, and I’ll be in touch.
Fiction Editing Rates
Line Editing
Base: $0.03/word
Editing the manuscript verbiage and structure line by line within context to strengthen prose, align with genre expectations, and ensure reader clarity. This is the second stage in editing, after the developmental edit. Similar to a developmental (content) edit on a narrowed scale, it ensures character arc consistency through speech patterns/word choice, broken or confusing rules in world building, and the overall pacing of each scene. I also include a style sheet of words, phrases, names, and spellings unique to the novel.
Copy Editing
Base: $0.025/word
A look at grammar—punctuation, spelling, word usage, and consistency in the details. This is the second to last stage of editing, after a manuscript has all plot, character, story structure, etc. issues resolved. I also include a style sheet of words, phrases, names, and spellings unique to the novel.
Proofreading
Base: $0.015/word
A last chance to catch and correct typos, spelling mistakes, inconsistencies, and formatting errors. This is the last step in editing, usually before publication. Your manuscript has been formatted into an e-book (PDF) or paperback book (“galley”).
