In a land where humans and Kaeletz have always lived together peacefully, contention and upheaval draw out the land’s legendary protectors as change hovers on the horizon.

Reiza has always longed to escape the pain of her father leaving, and she’s finally old enough to choose a Kaeletz companion and begin a journey across Thiadana. But in the first town she reaches, she encounters a mysterious group who believes humans enslave Kaeletz and a young man who seems more at home with Kaeletz than his own kind.

Eliden is finally free—or that’s what he wishes. After spending years cooped up in a single room because of his Father’s strict rules, he savors the chance to see more of the world than he’s ever known. If he can hide his father’s identity and his abnormal ability to understand Kaeletz, he might even make his first human friend.

As Reiza and Eliden’s hidden friendship blossoms into something more and becomes harder to hide, sacrifices are imminent. If the legendary protectors arise and side with them, they can save their land and their friendship. But if the protectors side with their enemies, Eliden will be trapped forever and Reiza could lose everyone she’s ever loved.
